JAARS Assisted Take-off

The reason we will be moving to JAARS in Waxhaw, NC in September is to attend JAARS Assisted Take-Off, otherwise known as the JATO program. When Philip took his technical evaluation in December 2022, the JAARS staff said that he fit the two of the three criteria that they look for in their pilots and mechanics. These criteria are called KSAs which stands for Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes. They liked Philips skills, his ability to learn fast and apply his experience in a variety of ways. They also liked his Attributes, his good attitude, willingness to be taught, and his love of learning. The area they wanted him to get a little more of was Knowledge to help prepare him more thoroughly for serving overseas. Though Philip has worked in the aviation industry for 9 years he has not gotten much experience with things like in depth troubleshooting, turbine engines, propellers, as well as theory. The aim of the JATO program is “building confidence by developing knowledge through experience so that more maintenance specialists can fill valuable roles in mission organizations around the world.” Philip will be attending this program for about a year where he will receive the training in those areas of knowledge and experience in which he is deficient. He will be doing so with a cohort of about 10 people who all aim to further the work of the kingdom. He will also have the opportunity to gain knowledge and experience in areas such as automotive, outboard engines, welding, painting, and more. We are very excited for this opportunity to learn from individuals who have many years of experience on the field and are passionate about what they do. We are so excited to have the opportunity to gain experience and join this work!
