Happy Easter
Greetings, all! Happy Easter! We forgot to take family Easter pictures, but we enjoyed celebrating the greatest day in history with Anna’s family in Ocala. We have so much to be thankful for. Over the last month our families welcomed two new babies, one on Philip’s side and one on Anna’s, so our son will have built-in friends when he is born. We continue to be blessed by the community God has brought around us. We were given the opportunity to share the mission of Wycliffe to some Sunday School groups at the local First Baptist Church, and the response was very positive. It is always a privilege to share about Bible translation, especially to those with limited or no previous context. The impact of accessing the Bible in one’s own language is so vital to the Christian walk. It is so beautiful to watch people who have taken their access for granted begin to recognize the gift it is and both value it more for themselves and desire it for others. God is on the move, now more than ever!
That by Hearing, They May Understand
The final portions of all four gospels contain the most powerful part of the greatest story of all time: the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Imagine having gone your entire Christian life never really hearing that part of the story. Sounds crazy, but this was the case for members of a church in Cameroon. Every year during Holy Week, the pastor would read the story out of his French New Testament, French being the main trade language of the country. But then one Good Friday he obtained a translation of the story in Yambetta, the language of this community. As the pastor read, the people sat spellbound. Some began to weep. Afterwards they asked him where he had found this story, because they had never heard it before! They finally could understand at a heart level that Someone loved them to the point that He would suffer and die like that–for them!
This is why Bible translation needs to happen, for everyone to have access to the Scripture in a language and form they understand. Praise God!!!
