Getting Started!

One month ago we put the last of our belongings in the fifth wheel and drove north. We have some amazing friends with a truck who graciously transported our trailer for us. Both Malachi and the cat made the 8 hour drive without incident, and we have all settled into the new space. Philip has begun training along with 12 other trainees who are working toward honing their skills prior to entering the field. We are also working toward getting Anna’s speech license transferred to North Carolina so that she can begin to work with kids on the base and overseas. JAARS recently hosted their Aviation Technical Conference where regional operations managers from all over the world come together to update and report what is happening with each other. This conference provided us the opportunity to meet leaders from Papua New Guinea, Cameroon, and Brazil. It was a great opportunity to hear first hand about the translation operations actively happening in these regions, along with the personnel needs they have.

Story from the field.

On Friday September 27th hurricane Helene began its path of destruction across North Carolina. As of the time of writing there are more than 100 fatalities, over 2000 people have sought shelter in red cross shelters, and 1000 people are still unaccounted for in Buncombe County NC. In light of this destruction, JAARS has been getting involved. Since Saturday JAARS has been flying supplies to the affected areas. Water, food, and diapers are some of the supplies that they have flown in. JAARS primary focus this week has been communicating with local officials and relief organizations to coordinate their efforts to bring needed relief. JAARS has also been utilizing their helicopters to survey the damage for planning purposes. If you want to see what JAARS is doing and how you could get involved in the relief effort you can visit their facebook page.

Prayer Needs

  • Pray for guidance as we begin to pray about our long term assignment.

  • Pray that we will create healthy rhythms in this new phase of life.

  • Pray for Papua New Guinea who is currently in need of aviation staff to keep up over 100 active translation
