What is Anna up to?

Imagine you are a family of five who are called to serve in Middle-of-Nowherestan. You are leading a team of translators to complete the New Testament in Nowherestanian. After a year of living there, your seven year old is struggling. He has trouble communicating, is falling behind in school, and has few friends. You find out that he has a speech delay that is contributing to these difficulties. You are advised by your missions agency that if you cannot find a therapist there, you will need to come back to the States to provide your child with the help he needs. The closest speech therapist is in a neighboring country. You are faced with the choice: weekly 8-hour car ride to the therapist, or leave the translation project.

Many missionary families will face situations similar to this while on the field. But what if there were a third option? With Zoom and increasing internet access, it is possible for specialists to provide care for missionary kids all around the world, keeping families on the field without detriment to their children.

When we found out about this need, we saw how God had created a space not just for Philip to use his skills, but for me (Anna), too! After a long process of paperwork, I am officially licensed in the state of North Carolina to provide speech therapy, and I have been given an official assignment with Wycliffe’s Staff Care and Development team. I will be working with students here at the JAARS base and also with students overseas via Zoom. Thank you for all your prayers over our family as we worked out the licensing and logistics to get to this point!
