It’s February Y’all!
Hello all!
The beginning of the year has come and gone, taking us along for the ride. We blinked and January was over. January has been a classroom month for Philip and a dynamic shifting month for the Mull family. The cold winter has brought, well, colds. But it also brought Malachi’s first snow, and a night of frozen rain which coated every pine needle in our backyard with icicles, perfect for sucking on. Even in wintery, sicky seasons, God brings laughter and delight, and good things to eat.
Philip has been learning all about helicopters the past several weeks. Having no prior experience with them, he is finding it to be a bit of a learning curve. He did a week of classes about the specific helicopter JAARS trains with, and then he and the rest of his training cohort did some work on it. They went as far as pulling both the rotor blades and the main mast and transmission. He has been getting some great experience. And because he can’t do just one thing at the time, he has been exercising his media skills as well! Watch videos below
Anna received some manual transmissions training this month, and can successfully operate a stick-shift vehicle! The skills she learned will be tested in a 4x4 off road training course next week that she, Philip, and several other couples will be taking in preparation for traversing unpaved roads overseas. She has also qualified to take her speech-language pathologist assistant exam in February (which simply means all the paperwork has finally been approved, an answer to prayer!).
As for Malachi, a milestone has been reached and things will never be the same! Our baby is officially mobile. He is a crawling machine, and while our fifth wheel does not offer the greatest square footage, he is intent on exploring all of it. It really does feel like we have a little boy now that he is on the move.
We continue to thank God for his constant provision, care, and blessing, and for you who pray and give in partnership with us. We bless you!
Living here at the JAARS base means we get to interact with many people who have served or are serving in other countries. About once a month we trainees will gather to listen to these experienced missionaries share their stories, insights, and advice on life in an overseas context. It is wonderful to hear about the creative and abundant ways God provides for his people and moves in his kingdom, and helps remind us of the bigger picture and why we are here!
This month we heard from a family from Indonesia. The husband is a missionary pilot in Papua. He and his wife love to worship and are musically gifted, and they sang us a worship song, first in Indonesian, then in English. Though we were not familiar with the song, listening to the Indonesian words still stirred our hearts because we knew it was addressed to the Lord. When they broke into English in the second verse, we could understand the words in full what we had impressions of in part. They used this as an illustration of what it is like to hear God’s Word in a language you can clearly understand. Needless to say, everyone was moved. We continued to worship into the night, sometimes hearing the Indonesians singing the song in their language while the rest of us sang in English. I loved hearing what I’m sure God hears every time his people worship, each in the language they clearly understand.
