The Mulls have been missionaries with Wycliffe Bible Translators since April, 2023
Philip is an aircraft mechanic and pilot assigned to Wycliffe’s sister organization JAARS, which works to support and sustain the work of Bible translation.
Anna is a speech therapist who works with the missionary kids care team, providing needed therapy, education, and care to missionary families who are doing the work of translation.
There is still a great need for Bible translation with around 1400 languages that still need a Bible translation project to begin. Though the need is still great, the number is rapidly shrinking and the gospel is reaching people groups at a faster rate than ever before.
God is on the move in ways that we’ve never seen before in the history of the world! Today we’re witnessing an exponential acceleration as churches and communities engage the last remaining languages that need access to God's Word. Seeds planted in communities worldwide over many decades have taken root and grown into an abundant harvest. Translation has made a generational impact, and people whose lives were first touched by the gospel in their own language are now working to bring it to other communities. The global Church is taking ownership of Bible translation!
1.45 billion people, using 5,509 languages, do not have a full Bible in their first language. Many of these people live in the most remote parts of the world, where JAARS is uniquely called and equipped to reach. We work tirelessly to get there—so every person on earth can learn the truth of God’s love, follow Jesus Christ, and make disciples in their own communities.
Our Story
The long road that got us where we are.
He was a tall, skinny white boy in high-water jeans and a Hawaiian shirt who was studying to be a pilot for missions aviation; she was a wannabe cowgirl who had just finished high school and was gearing up for college in the big city. Their paths crossed in 2015 at a college and career Bible study in Ocala, Florida, and they have been on the same road ever since. (Well...almost. Philip did have to ask several times before Anna agreed to be “more than friends,” but she got there in the end.) They began dating in summer of 2018, and were married in early 2020.
Their involvement in the church and draw to missions spans most of both Philip and Anna’s lives. Philip has been a part of church planting in the Tampa Bay area with his family since childhood. He has been on many trips overseas to Africa, Central and South America, and Europe, and he studied at ITEC to train as a missionary pilot. While at ITEC, he went through a program structured to not only train missionaries, but also focused on mission sustainability and empowering the local church to continue the work of the ministry once missionaries went elsewhere. Since completing the program, Philip has earned his instructor pilot’s license, Airframe & Powerplant license and has worked with Posada Aviation, who partners with both local and foreign missionaries and organizations to maintain their aircraft and help missionary pilots attain further pilot ratings. Anna’s family helped plant a church when she was young, and she grew up leading worship, teaching children’s church lessons, and organizing youth and worship events at the church. In college she studied speech-language pathology and linguistics, and has worked as a speech therapist for pediatrics in Florida. They have been involved in the local church, both in leading worship and ministering to young adults.
Since the beginning of 2022, Philip and Anna have felt the Lord calling them to step out and pursue long-term overseas mission opportunities. They are both feeling led to join JAARS, which addresses their combined interests in aviation and linguistics.
